When can you Say You're No Longer a "Struggling" Indie
Band?
Will it be when your indie band gets a record deal from a major
record label?
No! Not anymore. In fact a record deal is more of a burden
these days...
Today you can confidently tell the labels to sod off...
You're now playing directly to the fans. There's no middle man.
You can do really well without
having to chase a record deal.
How? Well this
is why I made this site.
With the rapidly changing music landscape
in mind, I give you:
-
Best ways for an indie band / solo
artist to record their music.
-
Best ways to market your music
nowadays.
-
Tips on writing, performing and
publishing.
-
Stuff about music, clothes and culture.
-
Quite useful rants.
-
Projects I'm involved with.
-
Influences.
Playing in a band and being on stage was a
bloody rewarding experience for me, I loved it. We faced plenty of
problems though...
...money, lack of time, marketing,
equipment, gigs, fans and management.
Funny enough, these problems got me well
interested in the business side of things. I researched a lot, I made many
observations, I managed a number of music projects, failed at some, succeeded in
others.
And I've basically turned into a bit of a
music entrepreneur / futurist / marketer, who sort-of enjoys writing
about it all.
I've come across a lot of indie bands doing
really well on their own. They perform what they want, and they keep all
the money they earn. They're good enough to sign their lives away to a
major label, but they do much better without.
On the contrary, there's loads of bands out
there who just don't know how to move on from the "old way" of doing
things, and they usually fail.
So until the "transition zone" is
over and the new music landscape becomes the new "common sense", my
mantra is to share with you all you need to know as a band, or solo artist, to
make it...
Here goes!
